Udzungwa Mountains National Park is only ten kilometers south west of Mikumi National Park, and is connected to Ifakara by on all weather murram road from Kidatu. The park has a total area of approximately 1990 km2 covering Mwanihana Forest Reserve and West Kilombero scarp Forest Reserve. Udzungwa Forests form an important plant genetic pool in that many of the plants species which have been identified there can note be found anywhere in the world.
The park has spectacular mountains scenery, rivers and waterfalls. It supports a large number of large mammals including, elephants, hippos, lions, sable antelopes, dands, waterbucks and bushbucks.
But the most spectacular sight is the presence of two endemic species of primates these are: The Iringa red colobus monkey and the Sanje mangabey. Other primates are velvet and sykes monkeys, baboons and black and white colobus monkeys.
